Term 4

Welcome back to Term 4! It was so wonderful to have the children back this week, refreshed from their holidays and ready for their last term of Year 3.

Congratulations to Leila who won Room 28's Literacy Pro Holiday Challenge. She has read 198,603 words and worked hard over the holidays to improved her word count by 22%. Well done to Arnav who was the runner up with an improvement of 14%.

We began our dancing lessons with Humphreys Dance School last week, which students will be doing every Thursday this term.

In Week 3 we will be showcasing the amazing work that the children do at school by celebrating the Arts. This event will be held on Tuesday, 23rd October from 4:30-6:30 and all families are invited to attend. It will include:

> A Visual Arts display
> Performances from the Junior and Senior Choirs
> Instrumental group performances
> Circus skills
> An Italian drama play
> Dancing

We are thrilled about receiving a "Highly Commended" for our flowerpot for the WGPS Flowerpot Competition that was held last term. A representative from Dawson's Garden World also presented us with a certificate and a $20 gift voucher! A very big thank you to Jayne for helping put together our amazing flowerpot.

Congratulations to Ashwath for his incredible improvement in our Principal's Challenge last term. Keep up the great work Ash!

As always, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any queries about our busy term!

Room 13 and Room 28's Assembly

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to all students from Room 13 and Room 28 for hosting the Senior Assembly last Friday. The students have worked so hard for many weeks to prepare, including making their own costumes from recycled materials, learning their speaking parts, remembering songs and actions and completing poems for the WOW Writing Boards. Thank you to parents and families for helping their children organise their costumes and remember their lines. The students have worked tirelessly and Miss Lockyer and myself were so proud of the way they conducted themselves and performed.

I would also like to acknowledge Leila, Riley and Francis for receiving Merit Certificates. Lucy was awarded the Values Award of Excellence and Commitment and Scarlet was presented with Room 28's Science Award. Congratulations to Anjali and Francis for achieving their Bronze Certificate on Literacy Pro, Ron for achieving his Red Certificate and Sienna-Rose for achieving her Blue Certificate.

Fire Brigade Incursion

On Thursday the 16th of August, all Year 3 students from Wattle Grove Primary School participated in an incursion with the Welshpool Fire Brigade. The firefighters spoke about fire prevention around the home, safety precautions that should be taken, what to do in case of an emergency, gave us an overview of their duties and showed us various pieces of equipment they use. All students thoroughly enjoyed this experience and learnt many quick and simple catch phrases like “Keep a metre from the heater”. Be sure to speak with your child about what they have learnt, and enjoy looking at these photographs taken on the day.

Assembly

Dear Parents,
On Friday 17th of August (Week 5 Term 3) the students from Room 13 and Room 28 will be hosting and performing at the Senior Assembly.
In preparation for this, many of the students have been allocated a role and as such they will need to learn their speaking parts. These speaking parts will be sent home in the coming days on laminated cards. Please support your child in learning their speaking parts to ensure volume, confidence and fluency on the day. There are also a few songs we will be learning at school. These are “Rip Rip Woodchip – John Williamson” and “Heal The World – Michael Jackson.” The links and lyrics for these can be found on our classroom blogs.
The theme for our performance is “Heal the World” with a focus on environmental concerns such as excessive landfill, pollution and deforestation. We will be exploring these issues and what can be done to “make a difference.” As part of this, the students will be challenged to plan, design and make their own costumes at home, with a focus on using recycled materials. The plan and design phase has been completed on the back of this page, and there is a range of ideas and photographs which can be used for inspiration on our classroom blogs.
Please be mindful that the children will be dancing and acting, so the costumes will need to be comfortable and appropriate for movement. These costumes will need to be completed and brought to school for rehearsal by Monday 13th of August (Week 5 Term 3.) This allows the students 3 weeks to prepare these. All costumes will be sent home again on Thursday 16th August so that the children are able to get dressed in their costumes at home on the morning of the assembly.
If you are having any difficulty with organising your child’s costume, please contact your child’s classroom teacher as soon as possible, so that arrangements can be made. Please note that those students allocated a lead role will be spoken to individually regarding costuming.
We thank you for your support and look forward to seeing you all there in the audience.
Kind Regards
Gemma Lockyer & Emma Ahearn

Diorama Project

Last week we videoed our virtual tours of our dioramas. It was so wonderful to see all of the hard work everyone put into this project! This was a great opportunity for students to express their knowledge of living and non-living things. We are very lucky to have such wonderful support from our families in Room 28! We invite all parents and families to come and have a look at our diorama display.
